Lake Harriet Treasure Map

Lake Harriet Park, southwest Minneapolis — bandshell, playground, and the lake loop.

A family outdoor map game: start at the bandshell, claim a playground as home base, walk a stretch of the lake loop, and mark a pretend X. Play the premade sheet as-is, or (soon) put your kids’ names on it.

Based on Park Treasure Map by QuestHunt. Works at Lake Harriet Park (bandshell / playground / lake loop). The original still lives at Park Treasure Map.

How long

A park visit

One visit. Sketch the map while you’re still there.

Neighbourhood

Lake Harriet

Southwest Minneapolis. The bandshell, playground, and lake loop are the outing.

A recommendation, not a gate. Toddlers can be the compass; older kids can draw the map.

On foot

Walking

A stretch of the lakeshore path is plenty. Skip anything fenced or unsafe.

The outing (very short)

What you’ll actually do

  1. 01

    Claim a home base

Meet at the Lake Harriet Bandshell, then pick a playground as home base — or the lawn in front of the stage if the swings are a zoo. This is a walk, not a concert.

  2. 02

    Play the place hints

Use the hint sheet on this page. Start at the bandshell, claim a playground, and walk a stretch of the lake loop. Skip anything fenced or unsafe.

  3. 03

    Mark a pretend X

Choose a pinecone, pebble, or fallen leaf already on the ground. Scribble an X on the sheet for where you’d hide it next time. The treasure is pretend unless you agree otherwise.

Where you’re going

Place notes

A city lake with a bandshell

  • Lake Harriet Park sits in southwest Minneapolis as part of the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes Regional Park. The Lake Harriet Bandshell is the start. The park lists a playground / tot lot, picnic area, and walking path — enough for a map, a home base, and a pretend X.
  • The park is outdoor and generally free to enter. Hours, parking, beach flags, and concerts change. Check the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board before you go. Last checked August 2026.
  • This edition names a place so parents can see where to stand. It is not a concert calendar and not a Minneapolis city hub. The original still works at any neighbourhood park.

Hints that only work here

Each box is something you can notice at this park, plus a short true thing about the place. Kid voice is on the sheet. The anywhere clues still live on Park Treasure Map. Nothing is uploaded. Refreshing the page clears the checks.

The squat red horned monster, claiming a picnic-table corner.

I called the bandshell our lookout. You pick a playground. Then we draw the lake before the snacks win.
